Just what you do on a winter morning in Iceland. Get up at 9:00 a.m., leave the house by 9:30 a.m. when a faint yellow line on the horizon indicates the imminent sunrise, and start your hike by 10:00 a.m., being greeted by spectacular light.
Hiking through vast lava fields, braving the strong winds, blown away by the sheer beauty of the place.
An old DC-117 plane wreck was the actual destination of our hike. After having braved the gales for more than an hour, the sight of the plane wreck allowed for some triumphant picture taking, almost like a summit picture, when being on a high alpine adventure.
On the way back, taking in the snow-capped hills bathing in the pink morning light.
